Adelaide
Adelaide is a beautifully written and heartbreaking story about love.
What appealed to you the most in this story?
I liked how real, layered and emotional Adelaide’s character was. Throughout the story she pours her heart and soul into her relationship with Rory while constantly thinking she isn’t good enough for him. This is such a relevant topic that both men an women come up against in relationships, and rather than letting that person go when met with their halfhearted engagements they just keep soldering on and trying harder to make them love them.
What didn’t work for you in this story?
I didn't love were the chapter's from Rory's perspective. They added nothing to the narrative at all, and they didn't go into his narcissistic actions. Basically, they just glossed over everything emotional with him, and came across as excuses and a way to make him sound better as a character and this was very unnerving. Thankfully there weren’t a lot of chapters from his point of view.
How was the pace?
This character driven story started out at a steady pace, but after about 1/3 of the book it came to a sluggish crawl, and became overly repetitive for me. It is still a well written story, but I feel like the plot, even though it’s character driven, was stuck in a rut and I started to loose interest while becoming frustrated.
Do you recommend this book?
If you like emotional women's fiction, this book is a May be for you. This is also a wonderful pick for book club discussions and buddy reads. I’m so thankful I read this with Sarah and she was there through my rants about Rory’s character.
