A Promise of Fire

A Promise of Fire

Oh my gosh y’all I’m in so much trouble! Since I picked up this book, I have gotten nothing else done or read, and I know I’m going to completely binge this whole series. You HAVE to get A Promise of Fire and get totally sucked into this fantasy series like I have. Trust me when I say it’s a must!

Synopsis: KINGDOMS WILL RISE AND FALL FOR HER...

Cat Fisa isn't who she pretends to be. She's perfectly content disguised as a soothsayer in a traveling circus, avoiding the destiny the Gods—and her dangerous family—have saddled her with. As far as she's concerned, the magic humming within her blood can live and die with her. She won't be anyone’s pawn.

But then she locks eyes with an ambitious warlord from the magic-deprived south and her illusion of safety is shattered forever.

Griffin knows Cat is the Kingmaker—the woman able to divine truth through lies—and he wants her to be a powerful weapon for his newly conquered realm. Kidnapping her off the street is simple enough, but keeping her by his side is infuriatingly tough. Cat fights him at every turn, showing a ferocity of spirit that burns hot...and leaves him desperate for more. But can he ever hope to prove to his once-captive that he wants her there by his side as his equal, his companion—and maybe someday, his Queen?

Discover the white-hot fantasy willing to break all the rules.

What appealed to you the most?

Everything! The plot, adventure, amazing supporting characters I fell in love with, the steamy romance, laugh out loud moments, found family, and more!

Overall, the characters and leading character, Cat, are really what had me connecting emotionally with the story. The story is written in first-person, via Cat's POV. Cat's voice is so fun! She is funny, stubborn, spitfire-y, honest, and refreshing. She's extremely clever and strategic, and she's one powerful woman with a huge heart. And all the amazing supporting characters…Well, you’ll have to read this book and fall in love with them too.

How was the world building?

World building is what mainly keeps me away from this genre. It typically gets to be too much with too many beings to keep straight. With this story that was NOT the case. The world building was so easy to follow, along with the types of beings from humans to gods and goddesses.

How was the romance?

If you like to read any type of romance novels, do yourself a favor and do NOT miss this book. Do it for Griffin! Sexy warlord! The banter! The hate-to-love dreaminess! The angst! The steam!

Steam level: Door wide open…Like blown off the hinges…All that steamy goodness I love!

How was the pace?

FAST! I could not put this book down for a second and basically read it in just two days. Then, I immediately picked up the next book, Breath of Fire, and I’m guaranteed to finish it today and jump right into book three of the series.

Do you recommend this book?

Y’all know I’m not a fantasy reader (haven’t picked one up in way over a year) and I FELL IN LOVE with this book and all the amazing characters. I cannot recommend this book enough! So, if you’re looking for a romance with a strong heroine who falls for an equally strong hero then this book has all those ingredients! Throw in a hefty dose of adventure and magic and you're all set!
