Built to Last

Thank you SMP Romance for this gifted copy.

Built to Last is an appealing, DIY themed, charming romcom.

What appealed to you most in this story?

The lead MC, Shelby, was a woman who had learned from her past mistakes and was looking for redemption. She kept the story interesting, and I found myself cheering for her as I read. Plus, I liked the HGTV style home renovation and how Shelby and her father were so close while working together. Also, I’m thinking this needs to have its own romance troupe because they are so fun!

I also really appreciated the deeper aspects presented in this story: toxic relationships, dangerous relationships with a parent, friendship, and personal growth.

How was the romance?

This was a sweet second chance lovers story that kept things light and fun. I enjoyed the witty banter between Shelby and Cam along with the tender moments. I did have a hard time “feeling” the connection/chemistry between Shelby and Cam, and I found myself more invested in the house flip/renovations rather than their romance. I guess I was just looking for more of a “swoon” factor and angst as they came together.

Do you recommend this book?

Am I allowed to answer, “I don’t know?” I just don’t know how to explain my final thoughts on this book because I enjoyed a chunk of it, but felt like it needed more since I didn’t feel fully drawn into it. However, I really think this romcom will appeal to a lot of people out there and they will fall in love with it.
