Eight Perfect Murders
“She unzipped her leather bag and removed a single sheet of paper. ‘Do you remember a list you wrote for this store’s blog, back in 2004? A list called Eight Perfect Murders?’”
If you are looking for a murder mystery that got together with High Fidelity this book would be it!
Our story follows Malcolm Kershaw, and how he becomes drawn into helping the FBI’s investigation of a series of murders that seems to follow a blog post Malcom wrote describing the eight perfect murders in literature. We discover early that Malcolm is an unreliable narrator as he begins to tell us his back story while working with Gwen Mulvaney of the FBI to uncover the murderer.
Warning…If you are planning on reading this book and have the following books on your tbr list, for heaven’s sake, do NOT read this book. There are constant spoilers, and the narrative about them will ruin their ending, twists and mystery.
The A.B.C. Murders
Strangers on a Train
The Red House Mystery,
Malice Aforethought
Double Indemnity
The Drowner
The Secret History
Deathtrap
I found this book an interesting read with twists and turns as to “who-done-it,” but there was hardly any action and a lot of description and talking. I think the depth and description the author goes into about the books listed on Malcom’s blog cause the story to stall. I’m guessing the author has a passion for these thrillers and wants the reader to have a thorough education in them to explain the rational of our mysterious and deranged killer. This book didn’t really “grab” me, but I really respect the detailed writing, the psychological research, and the well thought-out plot and narrative.
