Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my latest reads, adventures in travel, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Go As a River

Go As a River

Wow! Just wow! Go As a River is a magnificent debut and work of historical fiction that was inspired by true events surrounding the destruction of the town of Iola in the 1960s. This is a story that will capture your heart as you go on a journey of endurance, strength, and resilience. It is just such a memorable book, and I know the story will stay with me for a long time.

What appealed to you the most in this story?

Honestly, this is one of those stories that just has everything you are looking for, and of course I’m assuming you are looking for all things that will have you feeling it all - twists and turns, bigotry, dysfunctional family, found family, friendship, courage, freedom, heartbreak and hope.

I also love how Read has a gift for transporting a reader right into her world with vivid imagery. From the very first page, I was transported to 1960s Colorado and into Victoria’s troubled life as she looked to find where she belonged and what she wanted from life.

How was the pace?

Talk about a fast-paced story with a lot of emotion. To say this is both devastating and beautiful is an understatement!

Do you recommend this book?

Overall, I cannot recommend this book enough, especially for anyone who enjoys historical fiction and is looking for a compassionate coming of age story about hope. It has already gone on my 2023 favorites stack, so you know it’s a must! This is a story that will take your breath away and I cannot wait for Read’s next book.

Thank you, Spiegel and Grau, for this gifted copy in exchange for my honest review.
