Reluctant Immortals

Reluctant Immortals

“It’s almost sundown in Los Angeles, and Dracula’s ashes won’t shut up.”

Reluctant Immortals is a brilliant, at times humorous, and entertaining story about strength, friendship, heart, and the power to overcome your fears…Even when your fears are Dracula and Edward Rochester!

I absolutely loved this unique and fresh take where Lucy (Dracula’s first victim) and Bea (the mad woman in the attic from Jane Eyre) take on their tormentors, Dracula and Rochester in the late 1960s. The dark atmosphere and California setting were perfectly cinematic, and I was drawn into this gothic tale as Kiste blended history and fantasy.

From the very beginning I was cheering for Lucy and Bea as they both took on their tormentors in their own way. These two troubled women develop their strong voice and I just loved Lucy. She is strong, witty, opinionated and is trying extremely hard to prove that even though she is a monster, she isn't evil.

This may be a dark story, but it is also filled with light, warmth, and heart. Definitely add this one to your spooky season reading! It’s a fun twist on two popular literary classics, with strong characters that you will fly through!

Also, if you haven’t already read Kiste's other books, Boneset and Feathers, Pretty Marys in a Row and Rust Maidens, I encourage you to check them out too!
