Sisters Under the Rising Sun

I have read all of Heather Morris’s novels and she just somehow goes above and beyond each and every time and Sisters Under the Rising Sun was no exception. This was a truly phenomenal story about women in war and the fierce determination, courage, and hope they had while helping others survive as prisoners of war under the Japanese during WWII.

What appealed to you the most in this story?

I was immediately drawn to the fact that this book was based on a true story and part of history that was absolutely brand new to me, and the research that went into this heartbreaking story was unparallel. After having their escape ship attacked and sunk by the Japanese, Nesta and Norah swim to reach a remote island, only to be captured by the Japanese and held in one of their horrid POW camps where they and others endured disease, brutality and starvation. Their compassion and strength had me so emotionally attached while they (and other women) did everything they possibly could to help their fellow prisoners (children were prisoners too) survive. How have these women never been written about before!?!

How was the audio version?

Personally, I think the audiobook is the way to go. It includes music recordings from Norah and her fellow inmates, and Morris’s own narration for the author’s notes at the end with her inspiration and own education while researching this unbelievable story.

This story is for anyone who loves history and wants to learn more about those women who took courageous to new levels. You really don’t want to miss out on this one.
