The Good Sister
I’m a huge Sally Hepworth fan and her domestic suspense novels, and The Good Sister is another winner!
What appealed to you most in this story?
For me, this book is a huge winner for one main reason - the character of Fern (and also Wally/Rocco). I just loved Fern’s character and found myself rooting for her from the very beginning. Fern has major sensory processing issues and a unique way of looking at the world, and her unique views brought levity and warmth to this story. Somehow the psychological suspense part of the story did take a bit of a backseat to my rooting for Fern and her success.
What surprised you the most about this story?
I was really expecting this to be a deeper and darker psychological thriller at the beginning, but I was surprised to discover that it was a lighter story. Now, don’t get me wrong, there was a whole chunk of this book where I was holding my breath and wanting to dive into the book to strangle a character!
What did you think of the dual POV?
The story is told mostly through Fern's point of view, but also through Rose's diary entries that shine a light on the past and their childhood. The dual POV helped to create suspense and anxiety as to how the story itself would unfold.
How was the pace?
This was a fast paced story that I could have easily read in one sitting (if time had allowed). I had just fallen in love with Fern’s character, so of course that meant that I had to read as fast as I could in order to find out how the story would all come together in the end.
.Do you recommend this book?
All in all, I really enjoyed Hepworth's latest novel and cannot wait for her next one in 2022…Which I have an advanced reader copy of, so stay tuned!
