Tolkien Reading Day
Thank you Mariner Books for this gifted copy.
Why is March 25th Tolkien Reading Day? This is the date on which the Ring was destroyed, completing Frodo’s quest and vanquishing Sauron.
Have you read any of Tolkien’s works? When I was younger I had a preconceived notion about fantasy books and avoided them. Thankfully I out grew that, and I actually had my high school students (I taught 11th grade English) to thank for that and my own son.
This is embarrassing, but I never would have picked up Tolkien if it hadn’t been for the movie. When Web was way younger he begged to see the movie, and I was avoiding it because I thought it would be boring. Boy was I ever wrong! I was glued to the screen along with Web, and after that I had to read the books. So, I bought the series, and Web and I worked our way through them. Each night before bed I read to him, and I have the best memories of us both having to read “just one more chapter “ each night. Thank you Mr. Tolkien!
𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit. So begins one of the most beloved and delightful tales in the English language. Set in the imaginary world of Middle-earth, at once a classic myth and a modern fairy tale, The Hobbit is one of literature's most enduring and well-loved novels.
