All the Colors of the Dark
Dang! Just dang! I knew All the Colors of the Dark was gonna be five stars because Whitaker wrote it, but I swear this man deserves a genre of his own for the way he writes an utterly heart wrenching yet equally uplifting story.
What appealed to you the most?
As with Whitaker’s last novel, We Begin at the End, I find myself utterly speechless and unable to really put into words how this hard-hitting story impacted every bit of my being as I read. The way he writes leave a permanent mark on the reader. Its emotionally heartbreaking of broken people, of history repeating itself, of love, loss, sacrifice, secrets, family, compassion, murder, revenge and retribution. It speaks of the search for absolution and redemption, and the impossibility of trying to saving someone who doesn't want to be saved. It illustrates how far people will go to protect those they love, with a willingness to compromise their integrity.
What to expect:
Flawed characters with history
Multiple POV
Mystery
Grief
Obsession
Found Family
Effects of trauma
Spans decades
How was the pace?
I was completely engrossed and could not turn the pages fast enough. Plus with short chapters you can’t help but get caught up in the fast pace.
Do you recommend this book?
