As Good As Dead
This year Erin and I have buddy read the AGGGTM trilogy, and I’m so thankful that we had each other to talk to as we worked our way through the books…Especially the last book.
The first book in the series, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, was fast paced, nail biting and addictive. I binge read this book and could not wait to dive into the next one.
Good Girl Bad Blood continued with another nail biting and suspenseful story full of twists. The multilayered plot was deep and the characters ripped from today’s headlines, and I gobbled up the story.
And on to the final book…As Good As Dead.
Both Erin and I were so excited to dive into this final book and see what happens to Pip and where her future lies.
For about the first third of the book I was in love and yet again completely addicted to the storyline. Jackson kept Pip’s character real. This story started out deep and dark, since Pip was struggling emotionally and physically with PTSD, and I really appreciated how Jackson was taking on this serious topic in a YA novel in a realistic way. And then the shit hit the fan…
For the rest of the book I was honestly angry. Jackson took the story completely off the train tracks of reality and into a place that made absolutely no sense. Not only did she divert from reality, but she took Pip’s character and the supporting characters and stripped them of what made them who they are, their strengths, and how they were a cohesive unit that worked together in a healthy fashion. Honestly, at this point nothing in the story worked or made sense.
After reading the last page (well whole ending) in this trilogy I slammed the book shut and literally fumed.
My advice…Read the first two books in this trilogy and ignore the third.
A huge thank you to Erin for venting with me over this book and discussing our mutual disappointment in it.
