Hairpin Bridge

Hairpin Bridge

Hairpin Bridge is a story that takes place in the span of a day with a small cast of characters. Taylor Adams took a cinematic approach to this story as it is told in two timelines, three months apart with two POVs, as Cambry's story and Lena's, the Nguyen twin sisters.

Three months ago, Lena Nguyen’s estranged twin sister, Cambry, drove to a remote bridge sixty miles outside of Missoula, Montana, and jumped two hundred feet to her death. At least, that is the official police version.

But Lena isn’t buying it.

Now she’s come to that very bridge, driving her dead twin’s car and armed with a cassette recorder, determined to find out what really happened by interviewing the highway patrolman who allegedly discovered her sister’s body.

Corporal Raymond Raycevic has agreed to meet Lena at the scene. He is sympathetic, forthright, and professional. But his story doesn’t seem to add up. For one thing, he stopped Cambry for speeding a full hour before she supposedly leapt to her death. Then there are the sixteen attempted 911 calls from her cell phone, made in what was unfortunately a dead zone.

But perhaps most troubling of all, the state trooper is referred to by name in Cambry’s final enigmatic text to her sister: Please Forgive Me. I couldn’t live with it. Hopefully you can, Officer Raycevic.

Lena will do anything to uncover the truth. But as her twin’s final hours come into focus, Lena’s search turns into a harrowing, tooth-and-nail fight for her own survival—one that will test everything she thought she knew about her sister and herself...

Time for me to share my views on this contested book! There seems to be a split down the middle when it comes to reviews for this book. Either the reader finds it completely boring and ridiculous, or they find it a wild fast paced ride. Therefore, I’m just going to dive right in with what you are looking to learn about!

How was the pacing in this book?

I’ve read a lot of reviews that find this book completely boring. For me this was not the case at all. This book was intense! I flew through about the first third in no time as the suspense and tension began to build. At this point there was about a 20-30 page span that was a bit dull, but then the storyline picked right back up.

How realistic is this story?

In all honesty, this story is pretty realistic. I actually started Googling cases and instances similar to this book and they do happen. There are sick and twisted people in this world, and Adams’s story could have been taken from the headlines including the incredibly flawed characters.

Did you predict the ending?

I predicted parts of the ending but not the rest. Now, I’m someone who likes to be able to draw conclusions from a story and predict the ending. It gives me a wonderful sense of satisfaction, but I know not everyone is like me.

Did you read this with a group or buddy?

Yes! I read this with Kaley, and I really thought that helped bring even more to the book. We were both constantly writing each other when things would pop up in the story and opinions we had about it. I really do recommend reading this with others.

Do you recommend this book?

Adams crafted a twisted story of cat and mouse, and if you are looking for a story that will keep you in suspense till the last page, then this thriller is for you!
