The Accomplice
The Accomplice is a story about friendships and the lengths people will go to for each other.
Sooooo... I really not really sure how to write a review for this book. I mean it wasn’t bad or anything, but it was one of those books that was just ok, and I really can’t think of anything impactful or substantial to write about it, but I’m still going to give it a try.
What appealed to you the most in this story?
I was impressed and found it a nice change of pace that Owen and Luna's friendship was always platonic. That's something I really don't see in books these days, there's always one of the two having more feelings than the other or an affair.
Anything that gave you issues?
Be aware that the author uses third-person omniscient, so you'll be jumping around POVs quite a lot (you pretty much jump into the head of every character presented) and it will happen mid-paragraph. To begin with I found it jarring initially, but once I got used to it I found that it ended up working.
Is this a thriller or a mystery?
This story did not feel like a thriller to me. I wasn’t on the edge of my seat or holding my breath at any point in the story. Rather this felt like a story about a borderline toxic friendship that happened to have a murder mystery happening in the background.
How is the pace?
This was a slow-paced mystery that goes off on lots of different tangents which I swear are connected, but at times makes for a busy read.
Do you recommend this book?
Eh. It is an okay and at times interesting story. I guess overall this story was just underwhelming and I was expecting suspense and plot twists, and by the end I just didn’t really care or even like Luna and Owen anymore.
This was my first time reading a book from this author, and I’ve heard fabulous things about her previous works, so I definitely will pick up another one.
