The Good Doctor of Warsaw
How is it already Monday again!?! Where did last weekend go?? It was a really good weekend, but man did it fly bye.
Today @picture_pretty_books requested a #coffeeandcurrentlyreading and I love sharing my current reads. Last night I started ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐จ๐จ๐ ๐๐จ๐๐ญ๐จ๐ซ ๐จ๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐๐ฐ, and found myself staying up into the am hours reading. This is a beautifully written, powerful and heartbreaking story. Iโm looking forward to hopefully finishing it today! Gifford has done an excellent job melding fact and fiction to create this story based on a Jewish doctor determines to save his fellow mankind.
๐ฌ What book are you reading this week? Also, Iโm posting a giveaway this afternoon in honor of International Womenโs Day!
Thank you Pegasus Books for the gifted copy of this book. Iโm in love with it!
๐๐ฒ๐ง๐จ๐ฉ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ: Set in the ghettos of wartime Warsaw, this is a sweeping, poignant, and heartbreaking novel inspired by the true story of one doctor who was determined to protect two hundred Jewish orphans from extermination.
Deeply in love and about to marry, students Misha and Sophia flee a Warsaw under Nazi occupation for a chance at freedom. Forced to return to the Warsaw ghetto, they help Misha's mentor, Dr Janusz Korczak, care for the two hundred children in his orphanage. As Korczak struggles to uphold the rights of even the smallest child in the face of unimaginable conditions, he becomes a beacon of hope for the thousands who live behind the walls.
As the noose tightens around the ghetto, Misha and Sophia are torn from one another, forcing them to face their worst fears alone. They can only hope to find each other again one day . . .
Meanwhile, refusing to leave the children unprotected, Korczak must confront a terrible darkness.
