The Match
Oh, how I love Harlan Coben! He is one of my must buy/favorite authors and his books never disappoint…EVER! The Match is book two of the new Wild series, and once again Coben hit it out of the park with his latest mystery.
Synopsis: After months away, Wilde has returned to the Ramapo Mountains in the wake of a failed bid at domesticity that confirms what he’s known all along: He belongs on his own, free from the comforts and constraints of modern life.
Suddenly, a DNA match on an online ancestry database brings Wilde closer to his past than he’s ever dreamed, and finally gives Wilde the opening he needs to track down his father. But meeting the man brings up more questions than answers. So Wilde reaches out to his last, most desperate lead, a second cousin who disappears as quickly as he resurfaces, having experienced an epic fall from grace that can only be described as a waking nightmare.
Was his cousin’s downfall a long time coming? Or was he the victim of a conspiracy as cunning as it is complex? And how does it all connect to the man once known as The Stranger, a treacherous fugitive with a growing following whose mission and methods have only turned more dangerous with time?
What appealed to you the most in this story?
The mystery! Coben really is the master of mystery. In all of his books I’ve only guessed the “bad guy” twice, and once was just a total wild shot in the dark. From the very beginning of this book, I was reeled in with multiple mysteries that I knew would somehow come together in the end, and boy were the twists pure genius! By the end of each of his books I’m always left wondering: how in the world does Coben come up with these plots and twists?
I’m also a huge fan of the way Coben writes his characters. They are witty, smart, and real. But my absolute favorite is the sarcasm! I know there are going to be several laugh out loud moments just from the sarcastic comments and one liners alone!
How was the audio?
Steven Weber always does a superb job narrating Coben’s books. He’s honestly the reason I get in at least a 7 mile walk each time I start listening. His voice and inflection pull you right into the emotions of the story, and I never want to stop listening.
How was the pace?
This was a fast-paced story that kept me the pages because I just had to know what is going to happen.
Do you recommend this book?
You bet your sweet butt I do! I recommend all Coben’s books, but I’m already in love with his newest series and cannot wait to see what happens in Wilde’s life next!
