Yes & I Love You

Finally, finally, finally! I have a favorite rom-com! For ages I’ve been asked what my favorite rom-com book is, and it is something I cannot answer. There hasn’t been one that has stuck out or had me fall completely and utterly in love with the storyline and the characters. All the ones I’ve read in the past have been good, okay, and the majority just meh. I’ve kinda felt left out because I had yet to find one that gave me all the right feels. Sooo…drum roll please…Yes & I Love You is my FAVORITE rom-com!

Everyone knows Miz Poppy, the vibrant reviewer whose commentary brightens the New Orleans nightlife. But no one knows Hollyn, the real face behind the media star...or the fear that keeps her isolated (Tourette’s). When her boss tells her she needs to add video to her blog or lose her job, she's forced to rely on an unexpected source to help her face her fears.

When aspiring actor Jasper Deares finds out the shy woman who orders coffee every day is actually Miz Poppy, he realizes he has a golden opportunity to get the media attention his acting career needs. All he has to do is help Hollyn come out of her shell…and through their growing connection, finally find her voice.

This book has everything I wanted and look for (when you read the “check” in your head do so with emphasis and pizazz)!

  • Smart, strong, funny and witty female lead

  • Lead character stays true to herself while still growing as an individual

  • Laugh out loud moments (lots)

  • Funny, supportive, smart and real sidekick/friends

  • An actual plot with the storyline that kept moving along at a steady pace

  • Suspense

  • Believable romance situations

  • Some amazingly steamy sex scenes that start halfway through the book (mama likes her steam) not in the last chapter…multiple sex scenes too (don’t judge me)

  • A real conflict situation that threatens the relationship that is believable

  • And not once did I roll my eyes at any scene!

This was a sweet book with excellent humor, warmth, and lots of charming and witty banter. I was completely drawn into this book from the beginning, and found myself heavily invested in the romance. I sympathized with the situations both Hollyn and Jasper found themselves in. I loved the additional layers of Hollyn with social anxiety and Tourette’s. This made it feel more real and raw. The scenes about Jasper's improv were really interesting to me, and made what could have been an overdone story refreshing and fun.

Both Hollyn and Jasper were smart and humorous, so the banter between them was a joy to read. Their chemistry was palpable, the steamy scenes were oh la la divine, and they clearly worked well with each other (“worked” being the key word…wink, wink). I liked seeing Jasper help Hollyn step out of her comfort zone, especially because it was made clear that it was her own intelligence, strength and determination that motivated her.

Overall, I think fans of rom-com novels will 100% love this book, and if you are not a normal reader of the genre, this could be a perfect book to read when you need a break from heavier books.

The best part is that book two of this series comes out on July 6th, and you can bet my butt is going to read it in a single sitting!

What is your favorite rom-com??

Thank you Sourcebooks Casablanca for the gifted copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
