A Brush With Love

A Brush With Love

A Brush With Love from Mazey Eddings was such a charming and steamy romcom debut about two dental students that I won’t soon forget.

Synopsis: Harper is anxiously awaiting placement into a top oral surgery residency program when she crashes (literally) into Dan. Harper would rather endure a Novocaine-free root canal than face any distractions, even one this adorable.

A first-year dental student with a family legacy to contend with, Dan doesn’t have the same passion for pulling teeth that Harper does. Though he finds himself falling for her, he is willing to play by Harper’s rules.

So with the greatest of intentions and the poorest of follow-throughs, the two set out to be “just friends.” But as they get to know each other better, Harper fears that trading fillings for feelings may make her lose control and can't risk her carefully ordered life coming undone, no matter how drool-worthy Dan is.

Blood, gore, and extra-long roots? No problem. The idea of falling in love? Torture.

What appealed to you the most in this story?

I really enjoyed getting a look into the lives of dental students and what school and all the pressures of residency are like for them, and Eddings knows what she’s writing about because she is a dentist. Then, throw in a steamy attraction between two students, some tonsil hockey (you saw that play on words coming) and I’m in love!

And of course, my Jewish butt was so excited to have a Jewish heroine! I really appreciated and loved how the elements of Shabbat were represented and explained in this story, and it completely warmed my heart.

I also really appreciated the way that Eddings wrote about mental health in relation to anxiety and panic attacks that Harper dealt with in her quest to be a perfect dentist.

How was the romance?

I just loved this unique romance between Harper and Dan, and it was quite realistic. They both worked so well together and had some excellent chemistry as they were working through issues with their past and family.

How was the pace?

This was a fast-paced romcom that slowed down a bit after the halfway mark, but that didn’t stop me from reading this book in a day.

Do you recommend this book?

I recommend this book to anyone who loves a fun and refreshing romcom, and looking to get hooked on a brand-new series! Personally, I’m really excited to read Lizzie’s story next, since her character was quite entertaining.
