Holy smokes!! What a fast paced, thrilling and gripping story that kept me on the edge of my seat! McDonald has a huge hit on her hands with, Do No Harm, a story that lives in the moral grey areas while asking how far you would go to save your child. I was pulled into this brilliant and riveting page turner from the very first chapter.

Emma loves her life. She’s the mother of a precocious kindergartener, married to her soulmate—a loyal and loving police detective—and has a rewarding career as a doctor at the local hospital.

But everything comes crashing down when her son, Josh, is diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

Determined to save him, Emma makes the risky decision to sell opioids to fund the life-saving treatment he needs. But when somebody ends up dead, a lethal game of cat and mouse ensues, her own husband leading the chase. With her son’s life hanging in the balance, Emma is dragged into the dark world of drugs, lies, and murder. Will the truth catch up to her before she can save Josh?

We follow the story through the eye’s of both Josh’s parents, Emma and Nate. Both parents are determined to raise the funds to save their son’s life, but Emma does not limit herself, and goes straight to selling prescriptions for oxy. In no time there is a fierce battle with Emma forging more prescriptions to raise the money and Nate trying to solve the drug case his own wife becomes entrenched in. As Nate gets closer to solving the case, and Emma finds herself in over her head, I found myself holding my breath as the action took off!

This book really does hit home. As I read I found myself questioning right from wrong. Should I really be judging Emma? After all, I would do whatever I could to save my own son’s life.

I cannot recommend this book enough! McDonald has created a compelling story that will challenge your moral compass along with educating the you about the heartbreaking opioid crisis that still plagues our country.

I’m serious when I say, “GO GET THIS BOOK NOW!” It will make for an excellent buddy or book club read too.

Thank you Gallery Books for gifting me a copy of this amazing book in exchange for my honest review.
