The Maid

The Maid

Happy Monday! I hope y’all are taking off your week with a lot of energy and a bunch of smiles. Web has off school today, so that meant his loving and wonderful mother scheduled him a dentist appointment so that’s how we are living it up today!

I’m sure you’re curious as to what we had for our Sunday dessert and movie night, so here it is:

For dessert I made Better Than Sex Cake. This is a super fast and simple cake to make, and it is super gooey!

Buns In My Oven uses the same recipe as I do, and I hope you make this one soon!

For our movie we went with Red Notice since we are huge fans of the leading characters. This was such a fun and entertaining movie and I do recommend it!

On to the book review…

The Maid is a really delightful book, and I fell in love with Molly and the entire experience of reading this story that took place over one week.

What did you think of Molly’s character?

Molly Gray is a quirky character, likely on the autism spectrum as she doesn't really get the nuances of social interaction and misinterprets the intentions of others more often than not. She is just a heartwarming soul and so sincere in her efforts to do the best at her job.

Is this a mystery or thriller?

This book reads in part like a cozy mystery and towards the end bit of a thriller. I loved the mystery and trying to figure out who killed Mr. Black and why. But, I also enjoyed the mystery of untangling what exactly is going on at the hotel through both Molly's eyes and the eyes of others around her. As the story began to wrap up I was definitely holding my breath a lot as I sat on the edge of my seat.

How were the supporting characters?

There were absolutely endearing characters and some real shysters too! Molly is fairly complex because although she greatly misinterprets the intentions of others (making her the target of ridicule and bullying many times), she also has an uncanny knack for seeing through the deception of other characters, much to their dismay, and this made for some excellent dialogue.

How was the pace?

This story starts off slow as you get the background of Molly’s character and leading up to the murder, and then it just takes off. From that point I binged the rest of the book!

Do you recommend this book?

Oh very much yes! I loved this beyond impressive debut and can't wait to read what Nita Prose comes up with next.
